What happened

Detected as a gravitational wave signal, but the source type could not be confidently classified.

Gravitational waves are one messenger. The electromagnetic spectrum and neutrinos can reveal different physics from the same event.

ConfirmedExpectedPossibleUnlikely

Gamma-rayUnlikely

No matter to produce jets — pure spacetime event.

X-rayUnlikely

Possible only if merger occurs in a gas-rich environment (AGN disk).

◉

OpticalUnlikely

No ejecta expected. Rare AGN-embedded mergers could produce a flare.

📡

RadioUnlikely

No jet or outflow expected in vacuum mergers.

NeutrinosUnlikely

No nuclear matter involved.
